Why Recycling in Provo Makes Us Want to Scratch Our Eyes Out

Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but only a little.
So I believe that most people want to love mother earth. I also believe that our apartment complexes sometimes make it hard on us by not offering recycling dumpsters. In this, the era of green-is-the-new-black, where electric cars aren’t gay anymore, and Tivas are back in style, for goodness’ sake – can we still not recycle??
Sure, you can buy your own curbside pickup if you want to. But if you live in an apartment and your complex, like mine, doesn’t rent a recycling dumpster, you’re on your own, mate.
To give credit where credit is due, you can recycle pretty easily on the University campuses of BYU or UVU. No problem there.
Where to Recycle in Provo
Other than that, these are your options:
a metal recycling plant called Western Metals Recycling that no one knows about, which only takes…metal
a few dumpsters at Kiwanis park
a dumpster west of the freeway by the lake
a dumpster on industrial parkway (supposedly, I couldn’t find it)
Slim pickings.

That’s why we asked some of our friends to recycle with us this weekend! If I’m going to have to load up my car and drive my recyclables to Kiwanis park every week, I’m going to make it worth my while. And I did!
I was so impressed by how willing other people were to separate out their recycling once we offered to pick it up for them. Car = jam packed.
I think I’m going to make this a Saturday tradition. Join with me and show our apartment complexes that it’s worth it to invest in recycling! Because I like my eyes and don’t particularly want to scratch them out. K thanks.
